New Buckeneers Play Project
New Buckeneers is a project team set up by the Parish Council to examine play opportunities in the village and to rejuvenate, expand and manage New Buckenham Play Area for present and future generations of young people in New Buckenham and its surrounding area. The New Buckeneers project follows successful projects by its' forerunners, the New Buckenham Play Area Committee and the Junior Activities Committee, the last one nearly 20 years ago. There has recently been a surge in the population of youngsters in the village and it is felt that the time is right for a new project. The project is fully supported by New Buckenham Parish Council, who maintain the Play Area, and 3 members of the Parish Council, including the chair, are part of the team in addition to members of the village community.
Project aims:
- To create an exciting, stimulating and safe environment which will provide free play opportunities for children and young people to use at any time.
- To provide a facility which will encourage youngsters to be active in the open air, to socialise with other children and make new friends.
- To provide stimulating equipment, including an adventure trail and aerial runway, which will encourage young people to spend more time outdoors, which can only benefit their health and fitness.
- To ensure that the design of the area is aesthetically pleasing as New Buckenham is in a Conservation Area and the land borders an area of Special Scientific Interest (owned by Norfolk Wildlife Trust.)
- To provide a facility which will be accessible on foot.
Currently many parents and grandparents drive their
children/grandchildren to other villages to access play areas.
With the creation of new facilities within the village, this
will no longer be necessary thus reducing car usage in and
around the village.
